In a world increasingly driven by technology, the Girls Education Innovation Programme is a beacon of hope for girls in Africa, aiming to equip them with the tools and skills needed to thrive in the digital age. Recently, a group of enthusiastic participants gathered at the Fourah Bay College Digital Learning Hub to engage with this transformative initiative.
The core mission of the programme is to empower girls by providing access to and fostering the adoption of existing technology solutions that can enhance their educational outcomes. This is achieved through a multi-faceted approach that raises awareness about these tools, facilitates access to them, and drives their adoption.

The programme collaborates with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that are already working with or for girls, leveraging their existing programs and digital infrastructure. These CSOs play a crucial role in providing support for recruitment and implementation of the programme.

A key feature of the programme is its innovative challenge format, which uses the Upshift methodology to facilitate innovation co-creation sessions. These sessions, conducted in a bootcamp format over one to four days, empower girls to unpack the challenges facing girls’ education in Africa, explore existing solutions, and develop plans for driving awareness, access, and adoption of these solutions within their communities.

The recent engagement at the Fourah Bay College Digital Learning Hub was a testament to the programme’s commitment to empowering girls through technology. Participants were taken through a series of activities designed to enhance their understanding of the programme’s objectives and methodology.

The Girls Education Innovation Programme is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about empowering girls to become agents of change in their communities. Through initiatives like the engagement at the Fourah Bay College Digital Learning Hub, the programme is paving the way for a brighter future for girls in Africa, one empowered girl at a time.
